Advocacy

Community advocacy campaigns

WDFA's advocacy work, implemented in partnership with the Digital Rights and Mental Health Initiative (DRMHI), centers the lived experiences of young African women in conversations about digital citizenship, safety, mental health, and digital wellbeing. Through storytelling, dialogue, webinars, and knowledge-sharing grounded in participant realities, WDFA contributes to shaping more equitable digital futures. The organization positions women not simply as users of digital systems but as voices with the agency and insight to influence how those systems evolve. This approach recognizes that meaningful change requires elevating perspectives that have historically been marginalized in technology policy and practice.

WDFA's advocacy efforts span multiple forms and spaces. These include Facebook Live webinars that create accessible dialogue around mental health and digital wellbeing, community advocacy visits that bring conversations directly to local contexts, and contributions to policy discussions on digital rights and gender equity. The organization supports media engagement that amplifies women's experiences with technology and facilitates platforms for fellows and participants to share their own narratives. By creating space for young women to articulate their needs, concerns, and visions for digital society, WDFA strengthens collective voice while challenging norms that limit participation. This work is informed by direct program insights, ensuring advocacy remains connected to the realities participants navigate daily.
